The computer that first was released in 1982 is coming back.
The Commodore 64 is following the modern trends, as it will be available in a miniaturized format. The mini C64 is going to be called THEC64 Mini, produced by Retro Games (with an official license, no less), and it will be distributed by Koch Media.
The box will contain the mini C64 (whose keyboard is unusable), a joystick, an HDMI cable, and a USB power lead (but not an adapter?!). You can hook the mini C64 up to your television via HDMI to play one of the sixty-four built-in games. The computer will also have a pixel-perfect 4:3 aspect ratio, a CRT filter, a save function, as well as the ability to update its software via USB. With the two USB ports, you can connect a keyboard and another joystick.
What games will THEC64 Mini will contain? Naming a few from the list: Boulder Dash, California Games, Deflektor, Impossible Mission I-II, Monty On The Run… but unfortunately, we don’t know what user interface the computer will have.
There’s also no pricing or release date yet on the website. All we know is coming soon. However, a French website, Gameblog says it will be out on March 29, for about 65-80 euros. A few of our editors grew up with the Commodore 64… we had to start somewhere, don’t judge us!
