If this rumor is true, Activision might be doing a significant change…
Polygon, based on their sources, claims that Treyarch, this year’s Call of Duty‘s developer, who previously worked on the Black Ops series, could be skipping the single-player campaign (!) to focus on multiplayer and Zombies. We already saw something similar before… the PS3, and X360 version of Black Ops III had no campaign either.
Apparently, they were planning to include a campaign mode, but they might not have finished it in time. (And that’s more of Activision’s fault, as they keep launching a Call of Duty title in rotation with three developers…) This is why they would expand the Zombies a bit to make up for the lack of the campaign.
That’s not all – the „fad” term was intentional in the title. CharlieIntel backs up Polygon’s article, but also adds that Raven Software, the developers behind Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, would create a battle royale mode as a replacement to the campaign. Therefore, Activision might follow the footsteps of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite Battle Royale…
Activision, as expected, doesn’t comment on the rumors, as they will reveal Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII properly on May 17 – the game will launch on October 12 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
