An analyst company says Sony‘s platform took the victory this year.
ICO Partners kept track of all E3 articles, and their research came up with PlayStation at the top (16226 articles). Xbox finished second (15416), and Nintendo was lagging behind (10144). Interestingly, both Sony and Microsoft dropped back hard from last year, while the big N showed a minimal increase in articles (10144). No wonder there were less E3 articles this year (25900) than last year (27398) or the year before (28883), possibly because of a lack of hardware announcements.
Games-wise, Fortnite pulled in the victory with 2500+ articles, although the Sony-debacle might have pulled this amount up a bit. It’s followed by Fallout 76 and Cyberpunk 2077. We see a weak performance from the Sony-exclusives: The Last of Us Part II finished 12th, and Death Stranding claimed 15th place respectively.
The contest between the publishers went to Electronic Arts (6646 articles; top three games: Anthem – 2176, Battlefield V – 1849, FIFA 19 – 1362), followed by Bethesda (5379; Fallout 76 – 2385, Rage 2 – 1174, The Elder Scrolls VI – 982… and somehow, Starfield didn’t fit into the top 3), and Ubisoft (5242, Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey – 1813, The Division 2 – 1709, Beyond Good & Evil 2 – 837).
It’s somewhat unexpected to see Sony „win” because Microsoft – it’s not a shame to admit it – had an okay presentation this year, while Sony stuck to its word and focused on its four upcoming exclusives (Death Stranding, The Last of Us Part II, Ghost of Tsushima, Spider-Man). The press fooled us!
