The publisher was affected very severely by the Jacksonville shooting at a Madden event – they are the devs/publishers of the annual NFL game series.
Previously, we discussed in detail how a former champion by the name of David Katz, who presumably got eliminated from the event, killed two competitors, then killed himself at a Madden event. Electronic Arts issued a statement, decided to cancel the remaining qualifier events, and they also promised to increase safety never to have such an event happen again.
The story doesn’t end here. Electronic Arts initiated the Jacksonville Tribute, which consists of two parts. First, the company donates one million dollars to those affected by the Jacksonville shooting (mainly the families of Taylor Robertson and Elijah Clayton, the two victims), as well as those who got injured at the event. Anyone can donate money into the fund.
EA will also hold a stream on September 6. Unfortunately, we don’t know what they will have in this program, but the press release says they are „already working with many of us” to make the tribute memorable. We’re probably coming back to this subject, as the publisher will reveal more details at a later date.
The CEO of Electronic Arts, Andrew Wilson called the shooting „a senseless act of violence.”
