Compared to the rumoured 90 million figure, is it a higher or a lower number?
Sony Interactive Entertainment’s statement reads that the previously discussed 90 million number was easily surpassed by the PlayStation 4 – until December 31, 91.6 million units were sold of this 5+-year-old console. In the holiday season, 5.6 million consoles were sold, and the games sold decently with 50.7 million sales, pushing its total to 876 million, including both digital via PlayStation Store and retail copies. (In average, a console got little over nine games in average, and in its lifetime, the number is around nine and a half.)
Spider-Man, which came out in September, ending its season pass in December, also got an official sales figure, although the sales were tracked only until November 25 – Insomniac Games’ product sold over 9 million copies in two and a half months, which is a respectable figure. John Kodera, the president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, also said in a press release that by the end of November, the PlayStation Plus service had over 90 million subscribers.
Congratulations.
