He was part of the executive of the Japanese manufacturer, and a few months ago he left the position of CEO.
The executive of Sony, the emblematic and well-known Kazuo Hirai (aka Kaz Hirai ), has announced that he is retiring from Sony after 35 years in the organization chart of the Japanese company. This manoeuvre comes to put the finishing touch to his career and will be carried out for all purposes on June 18.
This is one more step in its progressive abandonment of the top management of the manufacturer and is that in February last year we told you that he had been replaced as CEO of Sony by Kenichiro Yoshida and that, from then on, he would occupy a position of director (of lower category).
The former member of Sony began his career in the firm in 1984 in Japan and soon moved to the United States to deal with marketing work. From 1995 he was part of the Sony Computer Entertainment video game division, just before the launch of the first PlayStation in 1995, and took the legend of the legendary Ken Kutaragi in 2006 as the head of the PlayStation division. It was from 2012 when he replaced Howard Stringer as CEO of Sony, a position he held until the middle of last year when he became the director and that, now, he will definitely leave.
Hirai, however, wants to maintain some contact with Sony executives, and “although he retires from his position as an executive and executive committee,” Yoshida says that “we will continue to count on his high-level support” in the form of an external consultant.
Hirai himself, meanwhile, has also talked about his departure. “I have decided to leave Sony after being part of my life for the past 35 years, and I would like to thank the shareholders and employees of the company, who have given me their full support during this journey.”
“Since I passed Mr Yoshida as the CEO in April, I had the opportunity to make sure that we can make a smooth transition and offer the necessary support to the new Sony directive. in the company it is aligned under the robust leadership of Yoshida, and that we can build an even brighter future for Sony “.
