The monthly subscription service, which has been available on the Xbox One for a long time now, will finally get an official showing on the Sony console, too – after a Brazilian PlayStation Network user taking a photo of it (which we discussed before), it was expected to happen.
Electronic Arts announced that EA Access will be available on the PlayStation 4 from July, for either five dollars (or euros) a month, or, you could acquire an annual subscription via the PlayStation Store for thirty dollars. What do we get for our money?
EA Access subscribers can play most new Electronic Arts games’ Play First Trials: usually before their launch, they can play ten hours with them, and if they end up liking what they say, they can acquire the game at a 10% discount. This discount also applies to expansions, DLC, season passes, in-game items, and more (such as Ultimate Team content in EA Sports games). Also, they can play multiple games from EA’s catalogue of games without paying extra. According to the publisher’s website, Battlefield V, Anthem, all EA Sports games from the previous year, A Way Out, Sims 4, Fe, Burnout Paradise Remastered, Titanfall 2, and Mass Effect: Andromeda can be accessed via the subscription. (There are other games, too, but they seemingly skipped listing the Star Wars: Battlefront titles. Our list is far from complete!)
So, Electronic Arts is catching up, and they will make their subscription service available on Sony’s console from the middle of July. It was about time it happened. We wonder when Andrew Wilson (the CEO of EA) and his team will pull the same move off on the Nintendo Switch, just for the sake of parity.
As Electronic Arts has previously expressed to rely a bit more on subscription-based services, it was somewhat expected to see them try and get some cash off the near one hundred million PlayStation 4 userbase…
