Codemasters‘ DiRT Rally game has set a new etalon in the genre, and now it can be acquired for free.
DiRT Rally came out in 2015, and it easily lifted the expectations around the rally games. Milestone and Kylotonn never had a chance to get even close to it – Codemasters showed that if we can get used to the thick British accent of the co-driver, then this is the game that can show simulation levels of rallying. Now, DiRT Rally is free via Humble Bundle’s website. All you have to do is click here, have a Humble account, sign up for their newsletter, and do it all before September 1, 10 AM PT/1 PM ET. You’ll get a Steam code that you have to activate by September 5! We suspect that this game will also silently get off Steam, as we have seen several times that Codemasters gives away a game for free, only to see it disappear from the store a few days later. (Even DiRT was no exception to this rule.) We recommend picking this game up, it is excellent.
How about two more games you can get on the PC? One of them is from 2016, by Playdead – from the makers of LIMBO, INSIDE is another fine piece of entertainment. The other game was the indie hit of 2018, Celeste, which was a somewhat punishing platformer. Both titles are available on the Epic Games Store for free. If you have the Epic Games launcher, then you can add the two games to your account via it, and if not, you can do so by registering on the website. (We’ll already say that the next two freebies between September 5 and 12 will be The End is Nigh and Abzu. Looks like Tim Sweeney keeps the double freebie train going.)
Have fun.
