PewDiePie Got Banned From China

The banhammer of the Chinese Communist Party struck down once again.

Felix Kjellberg, also known as PewDiePie, announced in his newest video with a photo what happens if you try to look for the term PewDiePie in China – you will find zero results. It was confirmed by multiple Chinese internet users, which means they cannot access the newest videos of the Swedish YouTuber. (Except for the re-uploaded videos on the other websites – the censors seem to have forgotten to deal with them.)

„Well boys, we did it. I’m banned from China. That’s right. After I spoke about the Hong Kong protests and showed their leader [he means Xi Jinping, the paramount leader of China – the ed.] being mocked for looking like Winnie the Pooh, I got banned from China. Now if you search anything PewDiePie-related on any Reddit related forum in China or a YouTube related video, it will just be completely blank. I’m laughing, but I’m sorry if you’re in China and try to watch my videos. That kind of sucks,” Kjellberg, one of the most subscribed YouTube user, said in the video.

In the video that got him supposedly banned, PewDiePie shows multiple memes, and one of them compared Winnie the Pooh to Xi Jinping. The former got banned by the Chinese censors in 2017, as several Internet users compared their leader to that bear. „The resemblance is uncanny,” Kjellberg said. He later discussed the NBA China scandal that started with Lebron James, a basketball player. „China is like that one person on Twitter that can’t take any criticism and just blocks everyone,” he added.

The China situation shifted into a higher gear after Blizzard banned Blitzchung, a Hearthstone eSport-player. (Kjellberg also mentioned him.) Who will be the next under the banhammer?
