Pushing The Last of Us II back with its release date (we wrote about it yesterday) might have had an impact on the Sucker Punch-developed, recently haven’t seen Ghost of Tsushima‘s release plans, too.
The last time we have seen Ghost of Tsushima, it was during E3 2018. Last year’s PlayStation Experience got cancelled, and E3 2019 did not have Sony participate either, so the Japanese hack’n’slash title hasn’t been the subject of the news for a while. This might be still the case for a bit, as Kotaku’s Jason Schreier thinks Ghost of Tsushima has also received a push back in the year: „By the way, Ghost of Tsushima doesn’t have a public release date yet, but it’ll also be bumped later into 2020 to account for this delay. Don’t expect them to suddenly turn it into a PlayStation 5 game or anything, but it was originally planned for the first half of the year – not anymore,” Schreier wrote on Twitter.
Going by his comments, we can expect that Ghost of Tsushima might show up on the PlayStation 4 AFTER the PlayStation 5 becomes available. Something similar happened with Gran Turismo 6 on the PlayStation 3, not long after the arrival of the PlayStation 4 in the West, as Japan had to wait until early 2014 to get their hands on the newest PlayStation console. We recently talked about the PlayStation 5’s potential release date and pricing in Europe.
Sucker Punch might be using the extra months to make Ghost of Tsushima a cross-gen game aside from the obvious polish and all that. With many of the recent delays, we suspected them to happen because of this, so we might see a PlayStation 4 version first, followed by a PlayStation 5 edition later in 2021.
