The Pope: Power & Sin: A Pope Simulator By PlayWay [VIDEO]

We probably haven’t seen anything of this kind yet: we can become a Pope in this The Pope: Power & Sin game.

PlayWay, which formerly was known as Play (releasing budget games at newspaper stands under the PlayPaper banner), has become serious in the past few years. They also took a bit of creativity to them with The Pope: Power & Sin.

In this game, we control Rodrigo de Borja, also known as Pope Alexander VI, who lived from 1431 to 1503, so we have to go back to the 15th century. He was the pope from 1492 to 1503. We’d also mention that you might know him as Rodrigo Borgia, who also showed up in Assassin’s Creed II. (This game is free right now on uPlay until April 17, so you can pick it up quickly in case you missed it.) So you have to act as Alexander VI in political and spiritual battles, and you’d also have to work on restructuring the churches’ administration.

„Take on the role of the Pope, strengthen the authority of the Church State, fight for spiritual and political independence from pagans and the renewal of administrative church structures. The rule of Alexander VI is a torrent of numerous scandals, excesses and signs of moral corruption in the highest authorities of the Church. Difficult times require quick, often violent decisions. Eliminate heretics who undermine your holiness. Unite Italy, expand the territory of your power, collect taxes and obtain riches. Politics don’t always have to be clean; you don’t have to get along with everyone. Remember that you have God on your side, so any decision can be right. Collect information. Any place is good, Vatican corridors or even a confessional. Many want the power, they want to be in your place. Manage subordinates and, above all, take care of the family. Give them high positions and secure their future. There is unlimited power in your hands, you are God’s representative on Earth,” the game’s Steam page.

By the Church State, they mean the Papal State, which was ruling the centre portion of the Italian peninsula. Italy did not get unified until the mid-to-late 19th century, though. And an example of the many people who’d like to take over could be Julius II, who hasn’t had the best of opinions of his true predecessor. By that, we mean Gius III was the one who followed Alexander VI as the Pope, but he had less than a month left on the Earth, allowing the conclave to find Alexander VI’s true successor.

The Pope: Power & Sin is developed by Forestlight Games, and PlayWay plans to release this game on Steam this year.
