DayZ’s Dev Studio Closed; The Publisher Promises Continuing Support

Bohemia Interactive‘s studio in Bratislava, Slovakia, has been closed – this team has been responsible for the development of DayZ.

The development of DayZ has been rough for several years – before it left early access in late 2018, it has been there for nearly five years. That is a significant amount of time. However, Bohemia Interactive, the publisher, announced recently that the dev team that supports DayZ has been severely cut so more people could work on the company’s next-gen tech (Enfusion). But that wasn’t enough: now, they have completely given up on the Bratislava studio.

„We recently closed our Bratislava studio. It was a mutual decision between management and studio leads, and we want to thank all team members for their contribution. This decision won’t affect the future development of DayZ, which will continue as outlined,” Bohemia Interactive wrote on Twitter. The funny part is that it wasn’t official for a while: there has been someone on Reddit who leaked the studio’s closure, adding that the support will stop, too.

It doesn’t seem to stop, though, as Bohemia has listed what they want to do with the game. They want to improve the stability, fix more bugs, change or balance a few things in the gameplay, and even console mod supporting seems to be on the cards. They also want new content, which could happen here and there – for example, Bohemia wants to bring back the ability to break limbs. (Your legs can be broken again, oh boy.)

DayZ is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, and it’s questionable whether it will be supported for a long period. We wouldn’t be surprised if it gets killed in a few months. We’re going to see eventually if we are too pessimistic or not.
