The name Judas was heard four years ago the last time, but now, it’s back. We have to question whether there is substance behind this name, or it’s a non-existent title. (Just like Agent by now, which is also something not seen recently…)
This is the only official image of Judas below. Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive have registered the trademarks for this project at the Unites States Patent & Trademark Office. They first have done so on April 22, 2016 (see the records here and here, but this feat was repeated on May 11, 2020 (see the new records here and here). Take-Two has kept extending the registration for the trademark until November 2019, so it can’t be unintentional. The new registration covers the same goods and services, including video games, movies, and more.
If you look up the www.judasthegame.com website here, you’ll see that it’s registered to MarkMonitor, a brand protection agency. They also happen to be the registrar for Rockstar’s official website. Take-Two has never commented about Judas, but the timing seems suspicious. They will announce their financial earnings today, so they might say that they are swimming in cash like McScrooge from DuckTales, thanks to the GTA Online money. Also, Judas Iscariot has been a traitor in the Bible.
However, keep in mind that trademark registrations don’t always mean actual games behind them. Activision Blizzard has two registrations to underline this thought: Call of Duty: Space Warfare, Call of Duty: Secret Warfare. None of these exists. (However, something called Call of Duty: Black Ops: Cold War, could, as that might be this year’s CoD’s name!)
Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two said in February (during their previous fiscal earnings report) that the upcoming development pipeline is the „largest and most diverse in their history,” including sequels and new IP. „One thing we know for sure is that it will change. Not everything in the pipeline will see the light of day, and there will be things that are not in the pipeline that will come out,” he said.
