The Xbox Series S codenamed Lockhart (mentioned in our news recently as well) is now named by the manufacturer. It’s essentially the silence before the announcement.
The Xbox Series S is like the Yeti: everyone talks about it, but nobody has seen it… yet. Now, on Twitter, TitleOS showed two images of the June 2020 Microsoft Game Development release notes, and they openly mention LockhardProfiling and LockhartProfiling terms. Scarlett is the codename for the next-gen Xbox, Anaconda is the codename for the Xbox Series X… so two out of three are official by now.
Also, Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, held a keynote at Gamelab. After that, he talked with New York Times’ Seth Schiesel. How did he feel after the PlayStation 5 showcase? „The hardware advantages that we’ve built [for the Xbox Series X] will show up. I feel good about our games lineup and our first-party [Xbox Game Studios] content show in July. We’ve taken user feedback from the last event and I think people will be pleased about what will be showcased. We set up to be player-led in designing the Xbox Series X. We want the power inside of the console to be predictable, and to be easy to develop for,” he said. Spencer says the visual leap won’t be as noticeable as the one we saw when we jumped from 2D to 3D. However, the immersion factor will dramatically increase thanks to the reduced loading times or the almost non-existent input lag.
He also says that Microsoft doesn’t want to follow what others have done with their respective exclusives. He is proud of the diversity of content that the Xbox Game Studios have done. Also, the success of the Xbox Game Pass makes Microsoft’s job easier to convince the developers and publishers to join
He then praised the Xbox Game Pass, calling it an important business model due to current events: „Xbox All Access will be critical for the Xbox Series X launch and our generation. The response has been great so far and you’re going to see a much broader usage with the next console. I think it’s going to be even more important given the current economic situation, not having to pay a big upfront cost for the console,” Spencer said.
The Xbox Series X comes this Holiday season. The Xbox Series S might be announced in July.
