“Because it’s better!” Sounded the wisdom from Gabe Newell, the father of Valve and Steam. Who would dare to argue with such a flawless argument?
As the release time of the two consoles with the Holiday season is approaching, the flame of controversy begins to blow higher again: which is the more powerful machine and which is more preferred by fans? It’s always interesting to listen to innovative minds on similar issues, and it’s no different now when none other of the big players in the gaming industry have spoken than Gabe Newell himself, co-founder and current leader of Valve Corporation.
The business leader gave stuck in New Zealand had a short interview with the local The Project, where he talked about how he and his family are coping with the situation, how they are going through the coronavirus pandemic. The interview is a kind of gesture on the part of the press now that GabeN and his friends are trying to put together a concert in New Zealand, thanking the hospitality of the locals.
At 3:08, GabeN is asked which new console is the winner, the PlayStation 5 or the Xbox Series X? And his short answer to this question is:
- The Xbox.
As the interviewer continues to bother about why, though, Gabe Newell replies, “Because it’s better!”
- I don’t have a stake in that race. Obviously, we do most of our development on personal computers. But of the two, I would definitely go with an Xbox [Series X].
Both next-generation consoles use different methods to achieve the highest possible performance to cope with the future of console games, and of course, every developer has their own preferred system. Since multiplatform titles will come on both XSX and PS5, for whose that’s gonna be really important will obviously be the first party developers who will be able to really harness the power of the machines. On the PlayStation 5, this power will clearly be the unique SSD, while on the Xbox Series X, the sheer raw power can give them the edge they might need in this competition.
Whatever it is, this festive season will bring the first sharp clash in the console war we’ve been waiting for for so long. If only one of the companies would take the first step and finally announce the expected price of their machine.
