There is someone who doesn’t use a DualShock 4 to play Sucker Punch‘s PlayStation 4-exclusive. Instead, he uses something more serious.
The game is good, and it becoming the best-selling game in July in the United States is justified. Those who are creative can still find ways to satisfy themselves. An example of them would be Super Louis 64, who managed to use a katana controller to play Ghost of Tsushima. It is a reasonable idea, as it’s a sword type, and guess what you can use in this medieval game set in Japan…
Originally, this katana controller was meant to be used for Capcom’s Onimusha 3 on PlayStation 2. Its gamepad portion can be similar to a DualShock 2 experience. The katana has two analogue sticks, plus face buttons that you can find both on the grip’s front and back. Super Louis 64 configured the controls in a way to make a swing act as a light attack in the game. So far, it sounds simple – now, it gets more complicated.
To perform a heavy attack, you need to hold down a button at the bottom of the grip, and then swing. Even parrying works, but it sounds extreme: you need to hold a trigger on the back of the grip, while simultaneously swinging up. The only problem here was latency – let’s just say that input lag can be troublesome in a third-person action game. Even the standoffs work… but for it, you must sheath the katana before the encounter, hold down the heavy attack button, and you need to pull the katana out at the right moment…
You can see the katana controller work with Ghost of Tsushima below, and as always, we say that human creativity knows no boundaries.
