Sony Interactive Entertainment’s CEO-and-president said something that might not happen after all.
We’re going to quote ourselves from late May when he got interviewed by Gamesindustry: „We are going to launch this holiday and we’re going to launch globally. We’re looking forward to it and it’s going to be a blast. Currently, we are not observing anything that tells us that there will be problems with the quantity or that we will not be able to launch the PlayStation 5 the way we want,” Ryan said. So he does want a global launch. That did not happen with the PlayStation 4: Japan had to wait until 2014, while North America and Europe got the PS4 in November 2013…”
We can now pretty much doubt his words. We’re not saying it because of the coronavirus global pandemic (which was mentioned a few days ago – when we said that the Xbox Series X might launch first, followed by the PlayStation 5 – as something that will cause logistical challenges), but because of the text seen at the end of the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War trailer.
So this year’s Call of Duty will launch on PlayStation 4 (as well as Xbox One, and PC via Battle.net) on November 13. That’s alright. But the two lines below it are suspicious. It claims that the PlayStation 5 version will debut this Holiday season in North America, while the rest of the world can expect it in late 2020.
For us, it feels like that the US and Canada will get the PlayStation 5 in November (before Thanksgiving and Black Friday!), meaning it’s either launching on November 13 (both the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One launched on a Friday in November 2013…), or November 20. Europe and Japan will then likely have to wait until December to buy the PlayStation 5. (How much will eBay scalpers gain out of it…?)
It’s not official yet, but we probably aren’t that far from the truth.
