Silent Hill: A Year Away From The Return Of The Franchise?

Allegedly, Sony is working on Konami’s IP’s soft reboot, and we hear some new details, even though some might go against what we have heard so far.

The last non-pachinko Silent Hill game was Silent Hill: Downpour in 2012. Since then, eight years, as well as a console generation has passed, as that game launched on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and now, we are waiting for the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X to arrive.

On ResetEra, we read that „Konami has [been] working on a Silent Hill game reboot (like God of War) for around 2 years.” God of War’s PlayStation 4 reboot was developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment Santa Monica, and it was released in April 2018. Also, „“Silent Hills” deceaded this year after a briefing with Konami, a legal representant of Kojima and Sony.” We have no clue what deceaded means, probably decided? It means the game might come to fruition after all.

Sony Interactive Entertainment’s „Japan Studio (with Playstation Studios support) cares the development of “project 0” to become a survival horror video game (after a partnership signed with Konami, this should right be the Silent Hill reboot).” So SIE Japan Studio is developing „Project 0,” as it is internally called. „Roles: Toyama as creative director, Masahiro Ito and Akira Yamaoka as external artist consultants from 2019.” Keiichiro Toyama was the director, writer, and background designer of the first Silent Hill on PS1 in 1999, Ito was the monster designer in SH2 (he created the Pyramidhead) for example, and Yamaoka was responsible for the series’ music at the time.

„Sony will publish and release it as [a] PlayStation 5-exclusive, Konami would obtain 8% of revenue.” Reasonable, if Konami doesn’t work directly on the game, but they own the IP. „Development status is expected to be good, so release by 2021 or early 2022.” Interesting.

Nothing is official yet, though.
