Konami makes another move that now holds back those players who end up getting a PlayStation 5 after saving the currently seemingly never-to-be-finished title’s teaser on their PlayStation 4.
P.T. was made by the original iteration of Kojima Productions, and it was a playable teaser of Silent Hills, exclusive to the PlayStation Store and thus the PlayStation 4. The first-person perspective horror title was available on the PS Store until April 2015, by the time which Hideo Kojima and Konami have had several disagreements (which is possibly why Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain felt unfinished), so Konami has requested Sony to pull the free demo from the store altogether.
You’d say that the backwards compatibility is a solution, allowing P.T. to be playable on PlayStation 5, but it’s not possible. Previously, it was – Polygon and GamesRadar reported that in late October, the game was playable without notable issues. However, the demo – or a requiem? – a few days later was changed, as its listing on PlayStation 5 was changed to „Playable on PlayStation 4,” meaning the PS5 was no longer capable of playing the PS4 title. (At this rate, we have to wonder if the reformed Kojima Productions is working on something Silent Hill-related or not…)
All this is thanks to Konami: a Sony Interactive Entertainment spokesperson said that P.T’s backwards compatibility change was a publisher decision – and guess who happens to be the publisher? The company that is now focusing on pachinko, Pro Evolution Soccer, and re-releasing older PC games. Even though it was causing them no harm whatsoever.
If Silent Hills doesn’t get revived by the new Kojima Productions, then this was nothing more than a move that causes backlash. It seems Konami intentionally wants to be the most disliked publisher.
