A Silent Hill game, made by a „prominent Japanese developer,” will be announced by Konami this summer, while reportedly, the Japanese publisher has shifted out the development of its IPs to other developers.
VGC reports that Konami has resorted to using the outsourcing method, which, in other words, means they aren’t working internally on one of the Silent Hill projects. Instead, it’s being handled by someone else. The project could be the soft reboot of Silent Hill, and it is supposedly going to announce this summer, possibly at E3, if it will be held this year.
The „prominent Japanese developer” term reminded us of Kojima Productions, as last spring, they seemed to tweet about photos related to Silent Hill, which got even our attention. And Hideo Kojima can be called prominent if we talk about Japanese game developers. He previously worked on the Metal Gear games at Konami, so it feels easy to tie the dots between the 2015 reformed Kojima Productions and the Japanese publisher with its Silent Hill IP. This game is going to be somewhat of a department from the previous titles. So a possible reboot seems more than plausible.
Those who are familiar with Konami’s plans told VGC that Konami has previously contacted Supermassive Games (Until Dawn, The Dark Pictures Anthology) to make them work on the Silent Hill reboot, but there was no agreement signed between them. And let’s not forget that Akira Yamaoka, the main musician behind the earlier Silent Hill games, said in an interview that was since scrubbed from the site that published it due to „a third-party request” that his next project will be something that fans have been waiting for, and it will be announced… this summer!
VGC also claims that Konami „also has plans to work on Castlevania and Metal Gear Solid games via external companies, but any potential releases are still years away.” Did Konami come to its senses?
