After just one year after the launch of the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series, Electronic Arts and DICE might be skipping the 2013 consoles, as well as their respective „half-gen” upgraded versions.
We have mentioned Tom Henderson several times, as he has been talking about the new Battlefield game recently. The insider now wrote the following on Twitter: „In other news, I still have yet to hear anything concrete that Battlefield will come to past gen consoles. Theory – It indicates to me that it probably won’t and the biggest reason Battlefield will come to the Xbox Game Pass on day 1 is to boost up player numbers.”
So he hasn’t heard any details about Battlefield 6 (we tentatively call it as such until Electronic Arts reveals the game) on PlayStation 4 (Slim), Xbox One (S), PlayStation 4 Pro, and Xbox One X. This might be a way for Electronic Arts to push the players towards the new consoles (if they can even FIND any in the stores), as the company has promised the new Battlefield game to be bigger and greater in scale than any of the previous titles. The game could be available via EA Play, which does have its ties with Xbox Game Pass, but Henderson believes it would be available in the base Game Pass subscription!
Battlefield 6 is planned to launch this autumn on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC (these platforms are confirmed at this point), but the Xbox Game Pass, PlayStation 4, Xbox One versions can be questioned. DICE is getting development help from Criterion Games, who in turn has given up on Need For Speed’s next game’s 2021 launch, sacrificing it to launch probably in 2022.
The new Battlefield will be revealed this Spring.
