Amy Hennig is coming back: after Star Wars Project Ragtag got cancelled (when Electronic Arts decided to kill Visceral Games), we didn’t expect her to work on a major project again.
Back at Visceral, Hennig worked together with Todd Stashwick under Electronic Arts, who rather wanted live service and monetization over single-player, story-driven games (even though this thought blew in their faces when Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order became a success, even though it too lacked multiplayer and monetization altogether!). However, the duo is back to work on an AAA single-player action-adventure game.
GamesRadar found Stashwick’s tweet: „I’m working with Amy Hennig and a core team of industry vets on an exciting action/adventure game. Seeking folks that want to push-state-of the art animation tech. Also, if you have extensive Unreal Engine experience see more here.” They are looking for a senior animation engineer and a senior software engineer for Unreal Engine, and the studio they work in is called Skydance Media, which was founded by Hennig and Julian Beak, a fellow industry veteran.
The job descriptions reveal that that Skydance is working on „a high quality, AAA single-player story-driven action-adventure game built using the Unreal Engine.” (Presumably UE4.) A brief description of the new studio states that it’s „laser-focused on premium action-adventure games with rich, compelling stories.” And here’s a quote from a job advertisement: „Our first productions will tap into the traditions of adventure cinema to create an engaging, energetic experience that captures the spirit of TV and film to excite both gamers and non-gamers alike. These games will be best-in-class for both visual fidelity and innovative gameplay on the latest console platforms and PCs.”
Skydance aims to keep its AAA team small to „maintain the highest levels of familiarity, trust and effectiveness.” As the average experience of the members are roughly twenty years, they must know what they are doing.
