It’s been a while since the blue hedgehog has become the mascot of SEGA, who celebrate him a lot.
A new Sonic the Hedgehog game is in development, and, according to a January 4chan post, it’s going to be called Sonic Rangers, but it’s not official yet. The game will launch in 2022 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The leak claims it might be an open-world game. In another press release, SEGA called the game Sonic Rangers. Ouch.
SEGA also announced Sonic Origins, a compilation that will include Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD (from the SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive and SEGA CD/Mega CD duo), with added content and features for „the latest platforms.” However, the specific platforms and the release date were not announced. (We suspect it might launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, and the rumoured stronger Nintendo Switch.) More information will be announced soon.
SEGA also announced Sonic Colors Ultimate, developed by Blind Squirrel Entertainment. The game originally launched on Wii (developed by Sonic Team) and DS (by Dimps) in 2010, and the re-release will be available in the following editions: for 40 USD/EUR, if you pre-order the standard retail version, you will get an exclusive Baby Sonic key chain. For the same price, the digital standard edition will include the Sonic movie boost (harness all the power of Sonic from the hit Paramount Pictures movie and gain an exclusive electric boost and aura), as well as a few exclusive player icons. For 45 USD/EUR, you can get the digital deluxe edition, which will contain everything from the digital standard edition, but you will also get early access (hit the ground running and experience Sonic Colors Ultimate early on September 3 at 6:00 a.m. PT / 9:00 a.m. ET), an ultimate cosmetic pack (customize Sonic and stand out with exclusive gold and silver gloves and shoes), and the ultimate music pack (three exclusive original game remixes to set the pace for you while you put an end to Dr Eggman). Sonic Colors Ultimate will launch on September 7 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC (as an Epic Games Store-exclusive).
And finally, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s next game, Lost Judgment, will include Sonic the Fighters in the arcades. This fighting game launched in 1996 worldwide. Lost Judgment (which we discussed in detail when it was announced) will launch on September 24 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
