The big N might be holding its worst-kept secret in the recent decades.
Bloomberg published a new article by Takashi Mochizuki and Debby Wu, and they write that Nintendo might well be planning to announce its new Switch model shortly. It’d come with the OLED display, upgraded hardware with 4K capabilities and Nvidia’s DLSS (deep learning supersampling) (both topics have been discussed before), and the pricing could be quite competitive.
„The new console, likely to be priced higher than the $299 original, may be announced ahead of the E3 conference starting June 12 to allow publishers to showcase their full range of Switch games at the global event”, people familiar with the new model reportedly told Bloomberg. “It will be sold alongside the $199 Switch Lite, with the standard Switch phased out over time,” they wrote. The price could be providing a fair bit of challenge to both the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series!
„[The] assemblers will start shipping the new model — whose commercial name is known only to a handful of people within the Kyoto-based company — as early as July, and production is planned to ramp up to a peak in the October-December quarter,” the report continues. Previously, Bloomberg predicted a 349 USD price for the console. It could be an incredibly competitive price for the Switch!
The report is backed up by well-known Nintendo insider Emily Rogers on Twitter: „Yes, Bloomberg’s report was accurate. New screen, upgraded chips. Aiming for a September – October release. An announcement is imminent. We might be getting news sooner than we thought.” She also predicts a new, 2D Metroid game to be announced. And then, Eurogamer also chimed in: „I understand this is to ensure third-parties working on games which support the upgraded Switch are free to announce these projects at E3, and before Nintendo’s digital showcase later in that week.” It can’t be a hoax at this point!
After all of this, let’s add what a Spanish website, Vandal added about the Nintendo Switch Pro, which might be the same size as the original model. It’d have the Micro SD slot in a different place for easier access, the dock would be slightly bigger to offer two USB 3.0 ports and an Ethernet port, allowing more stable online multiplayer experiences, the current Joy-Cons would be fully supported, and all this information comes from a Chinese accessories manufacturer. However, the site claims the new Switch would launch in NOVEMBER, due to the current semiconductor shortages.
And to top it all off, Amazon Mexico has listed a New Nintendo Switch Pro for a while, and it got wiped since, but not before Google cashed it. Something is brewing…
