MOVIE NEWS – Jamie Lee Curtis has revealed the first look at Cate Blanchett as Lilith in director Eli Roth’s upcoming Borderlands movie adaptation.
The Borderlands movie has revealed the first look at Cate Blanchett as Lilith. Director Eli Roth will adapt the ultra-popular video game series of the same name for Lionsgate. Although Roth is perpetually linked to the horror genre due to his early directorial work, Cabin Fever and Hostel, he gained prominence for the role of Sgt. Donny Donowitz, aka The Bear Jew, in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds. Now, with a script from Chernobyl and The Last of Us showrunner Craig Mazin, Roth will now direct the first installment of a potential franchise.

Like the video game series on which it’s based, the Borderlands film will likely follow several vault hunters as they travel through a vast, perilous wasteland to an abandoned planet known as Pandora. There, they hope to find a mythical vault that is believed to be a cache of alien technology and other treasures. Cate Blanchett will play the film’s main protagonist, a vault hunter named Lilith, while Kevin Hart will play another vault hunter named Roland. A few other fan-favourite characters have been cast in Tiny Tina (Ariana Greenblatt), Jack Black as the over-enthusiastic robot Claptrap and Gina Gershon as the boisterous barmaid Mad Moxxi.
Kevin Hart shared the first photo from the Borderlands shoot and teased the “crazy action” of the film. Now, another cast member shares a look at a major character. Jamie Lee Curtis, who plays Dr Patricia Tannis, has revealed the first look at Cate Blanchett as Lilith. Curtis shared the “secret BTS shot” she took herself on Twitter and brilliantly described Lilith as a “legendary heroine, psycho blast, vault hunting vixen with a bad attitude.” Check out the first look at Lilith below:
While this photo is essentially a silhouette of Lilith, it doesn’t reveal much about Blanchett’s interpretation of the character. But fans will likely be pleased to see that the film appears to be staying somewhat true to the games, despite reports that Roth’s adaptation won’t take place in the same universe.
Borderlands has assembled an impressive ensemble to surround Blanchett. In addition to those mentioned above, the film will feature Creed 2’s Florian Munteanu as Kreig and Edgar Ramirez as Atlas. The two-time Oscar-winning actress was the first cast member for the film, so it makes sense that she would be the first one revealed. With such an extensive list of quirky characters, expect the Borderlands character to be revealed later down the road.
