Sonic: The Movie – 2 Idris Elba to voice Knuckles

After playing Bloodsport in Suicide Squad, Idris Elba will voice Sonic’s inseparable ally.

Actor Idris Elba has now confirmed via social media that he has been cast in Sonic: The Movie 2. We already knew that Knuckles, who is a friend of Sonic’s, would be starring in the movie, as he was featured in the official synopsis of the feature film, but now we also know who the actor is who will bring this iconic character to life on the big screen.

British director James Watkins, known for more low-key work like Eden Lake and The Woman In Black, embraces noisy action genre tropes with lip-smacking enthusiasm, emphasizing pace and thrills over coherence or consistency.

We can only strongly suspect… Elba hasn’t said much about it. The actor has only posted one picture on his Twitter account. While we don’t have a statement or any word on his joining the cast, this Twitter post is enough to confirm his involvement in Sonic: The Movie 2.

Knuckles made his debut in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 in 1994, but he appeared as an antagonist who gave Sonic a lot of trouble in that title. A year later, in Sonic & Knuckles, the character left the bad guys’ side and became a great friend of the blue hedgehog and his sidekick Tails, appearing in the new movie.

The first Sonic film was a huge success, grossing over $300 million worldwide since its release in February 2020, making it one of the last feature films to be released before the pandemic hit.

Sonic: The Movie 2 has finished filming and is scheduled to debut in cinemas in April 2022. Sonic will once again be voiced by actor Ben Schwartz, with other big names such as James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally, Shemar Moore and Jim Carrey in the lead roles.
