Like many, Mr Goxx is trying to sell cryptocurrencies in the hope of making a fortune. And he’s doing very well!
This success is remarkable for two reasons. Firstly, Mr Goxx is making money, with his lifetime performance up by around 20% – outperforming many professional traders and funds.
Secondly, Mr Goxx is a HAMSTER.
The business-minded rodent’s usual cage includes a trading office. Every day when he enters the office, a Livestream starts on Twitch, and his Twitter account lets his followers know that Mr Goxx has started trading for the day.
Mr. Goxx has concluded his office hours for tonight with 1 order(s) placed.

By running the ‘Intention Wheel’, the fitness-loving rodent not only gets in shape but also chooses which cryptocurrency he wants to trade as the wheel spins through the different options. There are two tunnels on the floor of his office: one for buying and one for selling. Each time he runs through one of the tunnels, the electronics wired into his office will execute the trade according to Mr Goxx’s decisions.
Behind the furry money-magicians are two men in their 30s from Germany. “We felt that everything is getting more expensive these days, and it’s even harder to save money, especially when you have to pay high rents,” they said (referring to rents in Berlin – ed.). “It seems that most people of our generation see no other option but to throw a large part of their savings into the crypto market without having any idea what is going on. “We joked about whether my hamster could make smarter investment decisions than us humans.”
Mr Goxx’s name itself is a reference to the potential disasters of the crypto market. Mt Gox was once the largest crypto exchange globally – until it was compromised by a heist that led to its bankruptcy.
Goxx Capital and its mysterious owners
The first month was tough. Mr Goxx opened at €326 (£278) on 12 June with an order for Stellar (XLM). A month and 95 charges later, Goxx Capital was down 7.3%. However, on 27 September, the intrepid trader’s track record was up 19.41%. This beats the returns of major stock markets such as the FTSE 100 or the Dow Jones and the performance of investment supremo Warren Buffet’s company Berkshire Hathaway, according to calculations by crypto news portal Protos. Mr Goxx has at times even outperformed the most prominent currency, Bitcoin, on the crypto market itself.
To be clear, Goxx Capital is not an actual investment firm – and Mr Goxx’s human partners stress in every tweet that it should not be taken as investment advice. However, the duo behind Mr Goxx prefers to remain anonymous. Cryptocurrencies were a “very controversial topic”, and “as with almost all topics discussed on the internet these days, I feel that the debates can become heated and uncivilised quite quickly,” they explained. They would therefore prefer to have Mr Goxx as the face of their “light-hearted side project”.
Which, by the way, started as a hobby project during the time of the crown frenzy that was hitting their lives. Mr Goxx’s owner, an educator and prototyping expert, says he likes to get people interested in new technologies, sometimes with a brilliant sense of humour. The other person involved, a programmer, has been his best friend since university. The pair, who live hundreds of kilometres apart, “somehow got back together” while working remotely at Goxx Capital.
The rodent’s random trades attract a lot of interest from people, both online and in real life. “Ever since my hamster took over his business, I’ve been surrounded by everyone asking for more information about this whole crypto thing,” Mr Goxx’s owner told BBC News, “especially people who usually run away when they hear the word ‘blockchain'”.
Goxx Box, little big boss
Almost everything in Mr Goxx’s trading house is homemade. The office is fully automated, using a wide range of technology, including software scripts, microcontrollers, single board computers, computer-aided design, 3D printing, laser cutting and more. This has resulted in “quite a complex piece of equipment”, the creators said. But there are plans to expand. “We’re planning a lot of features that would make it a lot more fun and give Mr Goxx even more space to play,” they said.
But Mr Goxx, like a truly successful manager, is entirely in charge of his working hours. The gate between his usual cages stays open, except when he has to suspend his fitness training, or trading, for cleaning. And fans are eagerly awaiting the following Livestream announcement: “Mr Goxx is in the office.”
