Rocksteady Studios has included a ton of Batman: Arkham references in its next, Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League game’s trailer.
We already talked about Gotham Knights today, and that’s another game set in the DC universe. However, WB Games Montreal is developing that game, while Rocksteady is focusing on the Suicide Squad. Warner’s press release reveals a bit more: “Debuted at DC FanDome, the brand-new story trailer sheds light on the origins of Amanda Waller’s infamous Task Force X (a.k.a. the Suicide Squad) as Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, and King Shark begrudgingly embark on their mission to take down the World’s Greatest DC Super Heroes, The Justice League.
Featuring an original narrative set within an expansive open-world Metropolis, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League puts the four DC Super-Villains on a collision course with an invading alien force and DC Super Heroes. They are now laser-focused on destroying the city they once vowed to protect. All the while, the squad must be mindful of the lethal explosives implanted in their heads that could go off at the first sign of defiance,” Warner wrote.
The video features a bunch of Batman: Arkham references. The beginning of the video mimics the opening of Arkham Asylum (with the “hitchhikers may be escaping patients” sign), and the Waller scene takes place where we first fought in the game. Waller, by the way, is voiced by Debra Wilson; she played the same role in Batman: The Enemy Within, and she’s responsible for the motion capture work here, too.
Then, during the gearing up process, the evil McGyver-like Gizmo reveals several familiar items (King Shark wears the same hat as Riddler wore in Arkham City; Harley Quinn picks up Batman’s grappling gun… but there are a few other exciting things). At 2:10 in the video, we see Poison Ivy’s vines, and the Penguin is also present (but we should note here that the Suicide Squad game is set in a different universe from Gotham Knights!).
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will launch next year on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC.
