The Xbox Series X and the Xbox Series S will no longer get a single way to expand the internal storage capacity, but the pricing will remain spicy.

Microsoft hasn’t followed Sony’s route (who, after opening the PlayStation 5 up, allows you to connect any NVMe M.2 SSD via its slot if its speed is supported). However, the Redmond-based company might be a little more comfortable. However, the Xbox Series port is proprietary, but it gives us a plug-and-play solution. The issue here is that only a single SSD (“Expansion Card”) was on the market so far (Seagate’s 1 TB version, priced at 220 USD).

Microsoft announced on its website that they are bringing more solutions to the market: “Xbox Game Pass has made it possible for Xbox gamers to have a library of games at their very fingertips. There are thousands of games to choose from and play between Game Pass and four generations of game compatibility on Xbox Series X|S. With so many games available, we want to ensure there are also options for storage capacity and support to expand next-gen storage.

Designed for Xbox has collaborated with Seagate once again, and we’re excited to announce 512 GB and 2 TB Storage Expansion Cards for Xbox Series X|S will be available soon in all Xbox markets,” Microsoft wrote. Will there be anyone else other than Seagate building similar SSDs? Is no other company interested in making such cartridges?

The 512 GB version will hit the shelves in mid-November. The 2 TB format will open its pre-orders in November before it becomes available in December.
