Today marks one year since the launch of the PlayStation 5, and that’s why Sony has announced the most played games on the platform
In the year that the console has been available, 4.6 billion hours have been played, while 26 million hours of content have been streamed.
The list of the top 10 most played PlayStation 5 games is made up of
Fortnite
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
FIFA 21
NBA 2K21
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
Destiny 2
MLB The Show 21
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Demon’s Souls
NBA 2K22
The release, signed by Sony Interactive Entertainment president Jim Ryan, also thanked gamers for the console’s remarkable first year. “You’ve made PS5 the biggest console launch in history, and I really can’t thank you enough for your support and dedication this past year.”
He also had words for the console’s stock shortages, which could extend over time as Sony slows down console production in the face of chip shortages. “We continue to see historical demand for PS5, and we understand that inventory constraints continue to be a source of frustration for many of our customers,” he said, adding that “rest assured that we are focused on doing everything we can to ship as many units as possible, it’s something we work on every day across the company, and it remains my top priority. Once again, we thank you for your patience as we navigate through these unprecedented global challenges“.
Sony intends to keep the PlayStation 5 running at this point. Jim Ryan stated that the company currently has 25 titles in development between the various PlayStation studios. Of those we know about, Guerrilla Games did Horizon Forbidden West, Insomniac Games has Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Marvel’s Wolverine, Naughty Dog has one The Last of Us multiplayer project, Gran Turismo 7 is coming soon from Polyphony Digital, and Santa Monica Studio is developing God of War Ragnarok.
Even more mysterious, Bend Studio and London Studio have new IPs in development, and Firesprite has several new projects (though these may not necessarily be PlayStation exclusives). Pixelopus is developing a PS5 game in collaboration with Sony Pictures Animation, and the Asobi team is working on their “most ambitious game yet”.
