The Outstanding Succes And The Future Of Spider-Man: No Way Home [VIDEO]

MOVIE NEWS – Spider-Man: No Way Home’s outstanding score and opening weekend path the way for the next instalment

Spider-Man: No Way Home has received an A+ CinemaScore from audiences, the highest for any MCU film in 2021 and only one of four MCU films to earn such a high score. Spider-Man: No Way Home has finally arrived in cinemas, and anticipation for the film was high as it was not only the third instalment in the Spider-Man MCU trilogy but saw the return of fan-favourite villains from both Sam Raimi’s original trilogy and The Incredible Spider-Man series. Several ticket sales sites collapsed when they became available to the public, indicating a grand opening.

Spider-Man: No Way Home has smashed all box office expectations, grossing $253 million in North America alone and another $334.2 million in international markets. All this during its first weekend in theatres, for a total of $587.2 million. This makes the film the third biggest opening in history. It was initially expected to produce between 130 and 150 million dollars. Last Friday, it was already showing signs that the figure would be far exceeded.

Spider-Man’s third feature film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe trails only Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Infinity War. The movie is not only breaking box office records in a post-pandemic era. The film is experiencing a demand that hasn’t been seen in years and far exceeds what was experienced with, for example, the latest Star Wars trilogy. The only reason it hasn’t grossed more than Infinity War maybe because of the social distancing measures that are still in place in many cinemas and because of the new Omicron strain.

So Spider-Man: No Way Home joins a select group of eight films that have surpassed $200 million at the North American box office in their first weekend of release.

But that is not the only elite group the movie can join. Spider-Man: No Way Home was also overwhelmingly and positively received by audiences, as according to THR, the film earned a coveted A+ CinemaScore from audiences. This is the best score an MCU film has received all year, with Black Widow getting an A-, Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings an A, and Eternals a B. Spider-Man: No Way Home is now one of four MCU films to receive an A+ CinemaScore. The other three films are The Avengers, Black Panther and Avengers: Endgame.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter about his future as Spider-Man, Holland cast more doubt on his possible return to the role. However, this does not mean that he is done with the series, as he has offered to produce Spider-Man 4. The actor admits that he would be sorry to say goodbye to the role and says he is not done with it yet. However, he stresses that he’s happy with everything he’s done with Spider-Man so far and is ready to move on.

“In all honesty, I don’t know the answer to that question. There have been conversations about the future of Spider-Man. Whether it will be with me, I’m not too sure yet. Maybe I’ll be a producer or something, I don’t know. But I do know that I love this character, and I would be sad to say goodbye, but I have achieved basically everything I wanted to achieve as this character. I really think I’m gonna win the Oscar for this movie, so that’s great. So, I’m ready. I’m ready to say goodbye.”

Last month, Holland also said it might be time to move on. He suggested that “maybe the best thing for Spider-Man would be to do a Miles Morales movie“. He also said that if he’s still playing Spider-Man after 30, he’s “done something wrong”. As Holland is 25, filming on the next Spider-Man movie should be completed soon, especially if they can convince Holland to sign on for another trilogy. In any case, Holland’s return to the role is clearly not guaranteed for the time being.
