Final Fantasy VII’s Expansion Continues In 2022

The world that has been in the process of reimagining since Final Fantasy VII Remake (and let’s add Part 1 in brackets because the game is far from complete…) will continue to expand in 2022.

Japan’s Famitsu publishes an annual overview of the local games industry, interviewing many developers about their goals and plans for 2022. This year, 127 people have been given the mic, and among them is Yoshinori Kitase, who is working as a producer on the Final Fantasy VII Remake at Square Enix. Speaking about his ambitions for 2022, he said that the FF7 world, rebooted with Final Fantasy VII Remake, will expand more and more over the next year.

Described as a combination of RPG and battle royale, Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier is already live (he means that the game launched on iOS and Android on November 17), and then he asked everyone to enjoy the combat as a SOLDIER candidate. And what’s his keyword for the year ahead? Final Fantasy’s 35th anniversary. And he’s not wrong: on December 18 1987, Square’s last resort came to the Famicom, the NES’s domestic equivalent, as the situation wasn’t looking very bright for the company at the time (it hadn’t merged with Enix at the time, which was a decade and a half away; Final Fantasy finally came to the NES in North America in July 1990).

What doesn’t come through from this is that Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2 could be released in 2022. We haven’t heard much about the game’s sequel because it will continue, and then we’ll talk about PlayStation exclusivity. This year, the first part was expanded with a storyline featuring Yuffie’s story, which was no longer available on PlayStation 4, but only on PlayStation 5 and the PC edition, which is a sloppy port part of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade. And it’s almost sure that the second part won’t cover up the remnants of the original that haven’t been remade yet, so there will be a third chapter.

It also applies to Final Fantasy XVI for PlayStation 5, which we recently wrote about Square Enix’s delay in development by a good six months.
