Guerrilla Games doesn’t deny the reality: there is only one ending to the story, but your actions can change minor details.
The Italian website Everyeye spoke to Ben McCaw, head of the narrative at Guerrilla Games. He said the following: “The time you decide to spend with certain supporting actors could have an effect, albeit minimal, on the progress of the story. Let’s be clear: Horizon Forbidden West will have a single ending, which is very strong and impactful, but some nuances may change depending on the characters you have given space and attention to. In addition, on a couple of occasions, there will be powerful moral choices, which will have compelling consequences.”
Annie Kitain, the game’s senior writer, has already shared some thoughts on this with the Italian publication: “I don’t want to go into too much detail, but I’ll tell the background a little. Forbidden West takes place six months after the first chapter, Horizon Zero Dawn. In these six months, the Red Plague spread across the world. It is the first indication of the critical failure of the terraforming operation. Another clue is represented by severe climate change, symbolized by the ferocious storms glimpsed in some trailers’ clips.
If we want, Horizon Forbidden West is a game that also talks about ecology and the environment. In any case, Aloy begins studying the plague right away, and her clues point her to the West. The beginning of the game will explain precisely why,” Kitain said. Aloy’s team will head towards San Francisco and the Yosemite Valley.
In Horizon Forbidden West, Tilda is played by Carrie Anne Moss; Lance Reddick reprises Sylens’ role, and Angela Bassett is Regalla in the story, which launches on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on February 18. The question is how long Sony will keep the game console-exclusive here, as Horizon Zero Dawn took several years to make the PlayStation 4 > PC jump.
