There’s life beyond Horizon Forbidden West and the upcoming Gran Turismo 7: after the two cross-gen games, PlayStation is planning more significant releases, and they’re due to be announced…
A State of Play or a PlayStation Showcase could arrive during the first month of spring. Tom Henderson kicked it all off on Twitter by saying he has no insider information on the matter; he thinks something is happening in March, as there are too many signs pointing to it. This has been backed up nicely by one of the hosts of the Xbox Era podcast, Shpeshal Nick, who also thinks something will happen soon and called it “the good show”…
Then, Henderson began to speculate why it makes sense: “A thread as to why a PlayStation event is likely in March (speculation):
According to my sources, Warner Bros. has been waiting to show off more of Hogwarts Legacy for the past couple of months, but Sony hasn’t allowed doing so yet. Hogwarts Legacy is still scheduled for a 2022 release. In December 2021, Square Enix announced more information on Final Fantasy XVI in Spring 2022. Spring officially starts on March 20th. According to my sources, a couple of The Last Of Us projects are near completion and could be released by the end of 2022/early 2023. I’d expect to hear about these projects soon if they were to release this holiday period.
In December 2021, Bloomberg reported that Sony has a new service coming, similar to Xbox Game Pass codenamed “Project Spartacus”.
Launch target was leaked for “next spring”. Sony announced some details on the PlayStation VR2 this week but has yet to reveal critical information like release date, price, and launch titles. We should hear about these soon if the rumoured holiday 2022 release date is believed.
In April 2020, VGC reported that a Resident Evil 4 Remake is in development and scheduled to release in 2022. Fanbyte said earlier this month that Capcom is hoping to announce the remake in “early 2022″. God Of War Ragnarok is scheduled to release this year, but no release date has been set. Around March, a new trailer and release date would be ideal, with an additional trailer/dedicated State of Play closer to release.
According to my sources and VGC report, Twisted Metal is being revived – with Firesprite taking over development [via VGC]. It’s rumoured that the title could release in 2023, so a small tease/announcement soon is plausible for recruitment purposes if they need it. Hello Neighbor 2, Salt & Sacrifice, and Post Void are a few indie titles coming in the first half of 2022. Although they did get featured in an Indie Game showcase recently, a bit more, Indie game love wouldn’t hurt! I don’t think we’ll see anything on Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Marvel’s Wolverine until the latter half of the year due to their expected release dates of 2023-2024,” Henderson wrote.
None of it is official, but it seems plausible.
