MOVIE NEWS – Not 100% confirmed yet, but Amazon is rumoured to be highly committed to the God of War project.
God of War, one of PlayStation’s best-known sagas, is very close to getting a live-action series on Amazon, as the company is in talks to make an adaptation for Prime Video, Deadline reports.
The series has not yet been confirmed
According to Deadline, the adaptation will be produced by Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, producers of The Expanse, and will be joined by Rafe Judkins, showrunner of The Wheel of Time. PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures Television are also reportedly working on the series.
It’s worth noting that the series has not yet been fully approved, and even if it is, it could be a long time before we hear news about the project, as was the case with the confirmed production of Twisted Metal.
It’s not surprising that someone would try to take the God of War name outside of video games, seeing as not only was the 2018 instalment crowned GOTY but its PC debut years later was beyond amazing. The title was also a significant source of inspiration for Dan Trachtenberg, who is directing the new film in the Predator saga, Prey.
What will the series be about? That’s a mystery for now, and while Kratos and Atreus may give a new direction to what started back in the PS2 days, the fact is that God of War has a vast world for the creators to draw from for the series, including obviously Kratos’ well-known quest in the first part of the series.
