MOVIE NEWS – As the MCU’s Nick Fury, Samuel L. Jackson is a cornerstone of the franchise, but there are reasons other than loyalty why he’s not in a DC movie.

Samuel L. Jackson, who has spent well over a decade as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Nick Fury, hasn’t ventured into the DC world until now. Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the 70-year-old actor was asked if his loyalty to Marvel was preventing him from crossing over to the “other side”, but Jackson said that wasn’t the reason, although he doesn’t think he’ll ever do a DC movie either.

Jackson explained that while he’s actually more of a fan of DC comics during the podcast, he hasn’t seen anything out of the ordinary in their film productions. He said:

“Well, I mean, we’re all – actors are mercenaries.”

“It’s kinda what we do, we act who we act for but… But I don’t know that I’m going to read a DC script that’s gonna make me go, ‘Yeah, this is dope!’ ’cause you expect things to happen, because… I mean, I’m a comic book fan, so I’ve been reading comic books forever. And truth be told, I don’t even read Marvel comic books… I kinda look at ’em, and when I discovered myself as Nick Fury, I just happened to see myself and [say], ‘What am I doing on this cover?'”

“And that was it, I put the book back… I read DC Comics my whole life, you know. We all came through Superman, Batman, Silver Surfer… Aquaman, I was a swimmer… I was all about DC. But I don’t know what the thing is about them cinematically…”

As someone who appeared in the first film of the Marvel Universe, Jackson will be the longest-running member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ahead of Jon Favreau, who also appeared in 2008’s Iron Man and Spider-Man: No Way Home, his last appearance until now. For that reason alone, he’s more than qualified to give his opinion on why he thinks Marvel is doing better on the big screen than DC. While agreeing with the podcast host, Jackson admitted that DC’s interconnected universe is “a little all over the place,” while what Marvel has going on is “the real formula.”

Although Jackson made it clear where his future lies, and it seems highly unlikely that he’ll be seen appearing alongside DC’s biggest heroes if a DC script that really piqued his interest landed in his lap, it doesn’t seem like his ties to the Marvel studio would deter him from getting involved.
