It’s getting ridiculous: Activision Blizzard is being dragged through the mud, and rightfully so…
Bloomberg Law reported that Lisa Bloom, an attorney, has filed a lawsuit against Activision Blizzard in Los Angeles County Superior Court. Bloom represents a current employee, who asked to remain anonymous, who has been named Jane Doe (a fictitious name). The lawsuit alleges that a sexist, harassment- and discrimination-based, male-biased work culture has developed at the publisher and that 700 such incidents occurred under Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick.
Doe joined the publisher’s IT department in 2017 as a senior administrative assistant and claims that she was often pressured to drink alcohol and to partake in lewd games. Female employees often received sexual comments, and male colleagues were not afraid to grope them if there was a lot of alcohol in the office (and it was regular, Doe claims). According to Doe’s superiors, the excessive alcohol consumption and sexual attempts were just that “they were trying to be nice and friendly with her”…
Doe also claims that she was told not to talk about her concerns as it would damage the publisher’s reputation. She tried several times to move to a new position in another division but (after she blew the whistle to J. Allen Brack, former president of Blizzard) ended up with an offer of lower status, which also meant a significantly lower salary. So this was the management’s punishment for not… shall we say, bowing to the company in an adult manner.
Doe applied for a more senior assistant position in November but was ultimately turned down after speaking about her experiences within the company at a press conference in December. Therefore, she is seeking several court orders, including the introduction of a rotating HR department to combat conflicts of interest and the firing of Kotick.
And the clouds are gathering over the publisher’s head…
