MOVIE NEWS – Pet brand Pawp is set to make a massive donation of up to $1 million to support pet rescues, thanks to this year’s Oscar favourite.
Anyone who hasn’t seen the Oscar-nominated film The Power of the Dog can be forgiven for expecting to see some very powerful dogs in the movie, especially after it was revealed that pet brand Pawp will donate $10,000 to animal rescue organizations every time someone utters the words “The Power of the Dog” at the 94th Academy Awards this weekend. Benedict Cumberbatch’s film expected to take home several awards, which could mean a big chunk of money for a good cause by the end of Sunday night’s ceremony.
The Power of the Dog has picked up 12 nominations, including acting performances from Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons and Kodi Smit-McPhee…
…as well as Best Director, Best Picture and numerous production awards. As the frontrunner in many categories, it promises to be a good night for the film, and with Pawp’s charity work, it won’t just be film fans cheering for the film to do well. Of course, the presenters may mention the movie a few times at random, just to add another $10,000 to the coffers, which many will watch.
The Pawp’s generous plan was reported by People, which noted that the company said they were willing to donate up to $1 million to the cause. Pawp’s CEO admitted in a statement that the film might not have any real connection to dogs, but they’re looking forward to handing out a lot of money by the end of the night. The statement said:
“While Power of the Dog has nothing to do with dogs, Pawp is thrilled that it is the most nominated film, guaranteeing pups in need will be this year’s true winners.”
Of all this year’s Oscar nominees, The Power of the Dog arrives at the ceremony as the biggest favourite, having already bagged 227 wins, including Best Picture at both the BAFTAs and Golden Globes this year. Benedict Cumberbatch is finally up for the Best Actor Oscar for his role as Phil Burbank in the film.
We’ll see how The Power of the Dog performs at Sunday’s 94th Academy Awards, and for those who watch it, why not see how many times the film’s name is mentioned to see how close Pawp’s charity effort comes to the $1 million ceilings.
