According to Exputer, the French publisher is working on a third-person shooter, which could have a similar style to the battle royale Hyper Scape, which will shut down on April 28.
First, it should be pointed out that the name Pathfinder is not official yet. It may just be a codename (similar to Blue Box Game Studios’ highly secretive Abandoned), but it sounds like an objective-centric version of the familiar battle royale formula. At the start of the match, we’re dropped onto the map and teams of four have to fight their way through two walls. Each wall will have many gates. The goal is to get to the middle of the map, and there, the task will be to defeat a boss controlled by artificial intelligence.
Of course, it’s not that easy to just get through the gate. There will be randomly closed gates, while some can be passed through. Teams will have to find their way to the centre of the map in each match while also dealing with AI-controlled enemies (which get stronger as they get closer to the centre). Pathfinder is PvPvE, as teams have to fight each other to succeed.
The player characters are called heroes (…a la Overwatch?) with unique abilities, but there are no specifics yet. There will also be a central hub where players can meet up, do target practice or even race vehicles. There will also be an in-game store (prepare for microtransactions…) and other activities to take part in in the hub. It’s also like Hunt: Showdown, with a more near-future, sci-fi-style premise.
Ubisoft needs to differentiate Pathfinder from Hyper Scape, which has failed (there are still three weeks to try it, but one could ask why). Otherwise, longevity isn’t guaranteed here either. By the way, PCGamer has confirmed from their sources that Pathfinder is indeed in development, and Exputer has also heard from three sources about the game’s existence…
