Is A New Silent Hill Game Really Coming? The Alleged Developers Were Asked…

According to recently leaked information, which has now been withdrawn due to a copyright claim, the Bloober Team is reportedly developing a Silent Hill game.

A few days ago, leaked information about a new Silent Hill game allegedly exploded on social media. For a few hours, before the images were removed, citing copyright infringement, we were able to see details of the supposed project that would revive Konami’s acclaimed franchise. It all pointed to a specific development team: the Bloober Team, who were set to team up with the Japanese company in mid-2021.

Bloober Team won’t comment on the rumours but invites us to keep an eye on their announcements.

Although the internet has been flooded with theories about Silent Hill development, IGN took advantage of the Digital Dragons conference in Poland to speak with Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno about the veracity of the rumours. The answer? He declines to comment but promises that the company’s next game will “still be a Bloober Team title”: “We can’t comment on anything we are doing because we appreciate our relationship with our partners, of course. So we can’t [say] anything. We will make an announcement about our future projects as soon as we can. So then you will know much more”, to which he adds, with a chuckle, “Officially.”

During the IGN interview, Babieno explains the difficulties of developing a game whose IP was owned by another studio: “I would say that it’s hard to work with someone who [owns an IP you’re working on], but we are always talking with those licensors, [saying] ‘Guys we would like to use your license, but we would like to tell our own story.’ If we are not able to tell our own story, if we will not have creative freedom, it doesn’t make sense, because Bloober Team will not make a great game.”

“So that’s why we are trying to only [make] those titles in which we are feeling, ‘OK, it will be a Bloober Team game, not someone [else’s].’ So even on the project we can’t talk [about], it will still be a Bloober Team title.”

“We want to make games that tell stories based on game mechanics” – Piotr Babieno

Beyond the Silent Hill rumours, Babieno also talked about the future of his studio. “There are a lot of people in our team who would like to do bigger games, with more gameplay, with some game mechanics [we haven’t used before] because mostly our past titles were experience-like, right? It was more about the mood, about the story, not necessarily about gameplay.”

“We would like to do games which will tell our stories based on the game mechanics. So you could expect that each of our future titles will have a lot of gameplay mechanics. Those titles will be bigger.” The CEO then goes on to clarify that the games they are making will move away from the “walking simulator” style that they have already developed quite well in their other games.

It’s important to note that rumours of a new Silent Hill have been circulating for years, fuelled by moves such as rebranding. On the other hand, Team Bloober confirmed that they are developing two games on a larger scale than The Medium, so the community quickly linked both rumours without waiting for official confirmation of the new Silent Hill Game.
