MOVIE NEWS – The Star Wars TV series Obi-Wan Kenobi streamed more hours during its premiere weekend than any previous original production on the Disney+ platform.
The latest Star Wars TV series, Obi-Wan Kenobi, was a huge success. Disney has announced that Obi-Wan has become the most-watched Disney+ original series premiere ever worldwide.
This was calculated based on hours streamed during the opening weekend. Disney did not provide specific statistics on the total hours streamed, nor did it say which original series previously held the record.
Obi-Wan may have increased its ratings because it aired not one but two episodes when it launched on 27 May.
In any case, it is not surprising that Obi-Wan started strongly. After all, the series had a lot of hype surrounding it, with the stars of the prequels, Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen, returning to play their iconic characters, Obi-Wan and Darth Vader, respectively. In addition, the series debuted during the Star Wars Celebration. Plus, Americans had extra time off this weekend, thanks to the Memorial Day long weekend.
Along with McGregor and Christensen, Obi-Wan Kenobi star Moses Ingram, whose official Star Wars account has spoken out in his defence amid racist online comments.
Other Star Wars TV series available on Disney+ include The Mandalorian, which returns with Season 3 in February 2023, and The Book of Boba Fett.
Next up is Andor, which premieres in August. Disney is also developing a new Star Wars series called Skeleton Crew with Jude Law.
New episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi will premiere on Wednesdays, so check back for more. Until then, check out BadSector’s review of the first two episodes (spoiler alert!)
