At 86 years old, one of the world’s oldest and most famous Elder Scrolls gamers, Shirley Curry, is understandably worried about whether the next instalment of her favourite game will be worth it.
While it wasn’t a surprise that The Elder Scrolls 6 didn’t make an appearance at this weekend’s Xbox and Bethesda Game Showcase, it was one of the games we would have loved to have seen. We know that Bethesda has another title, Starfield, on its mind right now, but it was still painful to see nothing from the Skyrim sequel. At least a teaser! Or a screenshot! Or maybe the title of the game? After all, it’s been years since the announcement. If only they’d spit something out!
And it’s not just us who are longing for The Elder Scrolls 6. Back in May, during a panel discussion at PAX East, a prominent Bethesda fan expressed his wish to see some progress on the next game in The Elder Scrolls series.
Shirley Curry, aka Skyrim Grandma, quickly rose to fame in 2015 as the most lovable and adorable Skyrim YouTuber (she was 79 at the time) after her first Let’s Play of Skyrim gained massive popularity. Since then, he has become a beloved member of the Skyrim community and has over a million followers on YouTube. There’s a mod that adds him as a follower in Skyrim, he appears as an actual NPC in The Elder Scrolls 6, and he held his own panel at Pax East this year.
In the Q&A portion of the panel, Curry was asked what he would say to Todd Howard if he were present.
“How about ‘Hi’?” was the first quip Curry made, according to Rock Paper Shotgun’s report, whose journalist attended the panel. “No, I’d ask him to give me a cool game, I mean, I’d ask him to hurry up and finish Skyrim 6 already!”
The crowd erupted in applause and cheers. “I want to play it before I die,” he added, then laughed with the crowd.
Curry also said he would like to see more “creepy stuff” in The Elder Scrolls 6. “I’m just unhappy not to find scary games,” he said. “And I’d like one.” You can watch Curry’s full PAX panel here, which begins with him again expressing his surprise that he’s so damn famous. “I didn’t expect the room to be this packed,” he tells the crowd at the beginning of the panel. “I thought it would only be half full.”
Meanwhile, regarding Starfield, Curry said he doesn’t know whether he’ll play him or not. “I’ll have to wait until he comes out and see what he’s like.” And that’s great advice for everyone, straight from the grandmother of Skyrim.
