Fans Asked James Gunn To Bring Back Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn In A New Project – The Director Responds

MOVIE NEWS – When it comes to popular characters in the DCEU, Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn is on quite a few lists, so it’s no surprise that fans keep asking when she’ll return. In a recent Twitter conversation, James Gunn dropped another hint that he may want to bring the colourful Suicide Squad member back to screens in future projects.

While Gunn has so far revealed little about the things he’s working on for DC, there’s always the possibility of more to come, and if we’re lucky, it might even include a bit of Harley’s mayhem.

Margot Robbie first played Harley Quinn in 2016’s Suicide Squad, and she brought the character to life in a way that made her an instant fan favourite and certainly boosted Robbie’s already soaring career. The Australian actress has since played the character twice more, in Birds of Prey and James Gunn’s Suicide Squad. Thanks to a considerable fanbase, calls for more Harley Quinn in the DCEU are frequent on social media, and director Gunn responded to one of them in his usual cryptic but optimistic manner.

Gunn was responding to a post that shared a picture of a the couple hugging, which read, “Please bring Harley back for another project”. Gunn responded to the post with a picture of Robbie playing Quinn in Suicide Squad and a comment that simply read:

“Not a bad idea”.

Margot Robbie and James Gunn to work together again on a new Harley Quinn project?

Last summer, James Gunn teased fans that he would “definitely” do a Harley Quinn project. Although this was before the success of Suicide Squad, which was released a month after Gunn’s comments, it was the second time Gunn had commented on working with Margot Robbie on another project after Suicide Squad. The director has previously said that there had been discussions, but precisely how detailed those discussions were and where they ended up is not yet known.

Gunn is currently working on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 for Marvel Studios, with the second season of Peacemaker, an Amanda Waller series, coming sometime after that, and it appears that Gunn has at least one other series in development for Warner Bros. For now, it seems that Gunn is thrilled to continue working on the TV branch of the DCEU and has previously hinted that he could see himself continuing to do so for at least the next year or so.

Meanwhile, Margot Robbie is currently busy filming a new movie about the famous doll Barbie, playing the curious and mysterious Barbie. Starring alongside Ryan Gosling, Simu Liu and Will Ferrell, very little is known at the moment about exactly what the film will look like when it is released. Whether or not Robbie can be lured back into the world of Harley Quinn after this remains to be seen.
