Bruce Willis retires from acting after a diagnosis of aphasia
Although Bruce Willis has retired from acting due to his aphasia diagnosis, he has been working frequently. This has meant that he has released several more films after it was announced that he would no longer be taking on roles. This year alone, he has appeared in a slew of films, including Gasoline Alley, Fortress: Sniper’s Eye, Vendetta and White Elephant. After Wrong Place, he has a handful more to go, as his final film will be in Chuck Russell’s upcoming action movie Paradise City, in which he will reunite with Pulp Fiction co-star John Travolta.
“In general, it was an honor to be in one of his last films and to be there [and share] the set with him,” Willis’ White Elephant co-star Vadhir Derbez told MovieWeb. “He did very well. He was wonderful. He’s a legend. I think everything he does – and [he did] – is so good, so just to see him play him was, honestly, great. I’m just glad people can enjoy another movie with him.”
Bruce Willis has since been enjoying his retirement. News of his aphasia diagnosis was first made public by his family in March. His daughter, Rumer Willis, said that his condition meant her father could no longer work and had to retire from Hollywood to concentrate on himself.
“To Bruce’s wonderful supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has health issues and was recently diagnosed with aphasia, which is affecting his cognitive abilities. As a result, and with great consideration, Bruce is retiring from the career that has meant so much to him,” Rumer said in a statement.
The statement added: “This is a truly difficult time for our family and we are so grateful for your continued love, compassion and support. We are going through this as a strong family unit and wanted to include her fans because we know how much she means to you, as you mean to her. As Bruce always said, “Live it!” and together we plan to do just that.”
