Several Ex-CD Projekt RED Developers Work On An Online Ninja Game

The team may be taking a slightly different approach than they’ve done under CD Projekt.

In 2007, CD Projekt RED (shortening to CDPR onwards) released its first game, The Witcher, based on the books by Andrzej Sapkowski, which went on to spawn two sequels, with the third game currently in development for the current-gen (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, updated PC) version alongside the next instalment. Aside from these three games, GWENT also made an appearance (which happened because the card game that debuted in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was such a hit that the Polish studio made it a standalone title), but then, the initial state of Cyberpunk 2077 was such a failure that all confidence in them was lost (not to mention their share value: the company is down 75%).

In May, ex-CDPR developer Jacub Ben co-founded a new studio, Dark Passenger. He has worked at CDPR for nearly five years as a cinematic artist, assistant director and junior cinematic artist. He also worked on Cyberpunk 2077 under Dark Passenger’s previous name, RealTime Warriors. Still, while CDPR works on Night City’s expansion and the new The Witcher game, Dark Passenger is preparing to launch a new project.

On Twitter, Dark Passenger mentions that they’re looking for people for a new game (for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC, using Unreal Engine 5), and according to the company’s website, it’s a yet-unnamed online ninja-themed action game. It is set in feudal Japan when an unknown assailant invades the island nation. We don’t know if it’s supernatural or a historical attacker (Ghost of Tsushima was the latter, as the Mongols did try to land in Japan). There will be ninjas from several houses, and everyone will go on a treasure hunt to fight the invaders, but they’ll also be fighting each other. PvPvE?

Cooperation and competition have been mentioned (so PvPvE doesn’t seem like a bad idea on our part), and you can fight with katanas, shuriken, and kunai (throwable knives). The melee combat will be similar to Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and we can also expect a complex customization system for character creation.

It is not a unique example of studio excellence: ex-BioWare developers -> Stoic Studio, who created The Banner Saga games; ex-Telltale Games developers -> Campo Santo Games, who made Firewatch.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
