MOVIE NEWS – Idris Elba “steps back from James Bond role” despite bookies saying he is favorite to replace Daniel Craig
The 49-year-old star was the bookies’ favourite to replace Daniel Craig in the super spy role, but he wants to take on other roles. Idris even suggested a list of possible actors for the role of 007 to producer Barbara Broccoli.
According to a source, he is “informally” involved in the decision-making process, as he has been in talks with the producers for a long time.
Ladbrokes gave the actor 3/1 odds to take on the role after Daniel announced that 2021’s No Time to Die would be his last appearance as the character. But Idris Elba has reportedly backed out of “years of negotiations” with film bosses to take on the role of James Bond.
The 49-year-old star was the bookies’ favourite to replace Daniel Craig in the super spy role, but he wants to look for other roles – in fact, he submitted a list of proposed actors for the role of 007 to producer Barbara Broccoli.
A source told The Sun:
“The fans and Barbara wanted Idris, but he wants to create something for himself. However, he has already suggested names for the role of 007. He is ‘informally’ involved in the decision-making process as he has been in talks with the producers for a long time.” em>
The DailyMail has reached out to representatives of Idris and the James Bond producers for comment on the news.
While at the 2021 premiere of The Harder They Fall, Idris said, when asked if he could be considered for the next 007 role, he said:
“No, I’m not going to be James Bond.”
