John Marston’s voice actor Rob Wiethoff does a live stream of himself playing Red Dead Redemption, revealing he’s never played the game before.
Back in 2010, Red Dead Redemption was released worldwide on video game consoles. The game was a huge success for Rockstar and is considered one of the finest additions to its library. However, one significant aspect that clicked with gamers was the character of John Marston in Red Dead Redemption, voiced by Rob Wiethoff.
In Red Dead Redemption, John Marston is the protagonist of the game. A former outlaw trying to get back on track, Marston is practically blackmailed into doing the dirty work for the game’s arch-enemy, Edgar Ross, who forces him to hunt down the surviving members of his old gang. The character fell out with these members following a robbery gone wrong, detailed in the prequel film Red Dead Redemption 2. Finally, Edgar Ross kills John Marston, often considered one of the best deaths in gaming.
John Marston’s voice actor Rob Wiethoff reprises the role in both Red Dead Redemption 2 and the first game’s DLC, Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare: Undead Nightmare. At the end of the second game, after the death of Arthur Morgan, John became the primary player character in the post-story content. Despite the game being released nearly twelve years ago, Rob Wiethoff never played the first game, but that’s about to change. Wiethoff revealed in a recent TikTok post that he will be streaming the first game for the first time.
In the post, Rob Wiethoff revealed that he will be streaming the game with Dan Allen of Dan Allen Gaming. The Red Dead Redemption star revealed that he recently did an interview with Allen that prompted the conversation. Wiethoff further stated that one of the reasons he never played the game was because he was terrible at it and didn’t have time for it. However, that didn’t stop him from commenting on the state of Red Dead Online. The stream will take place on Sunday at 10 a.m. ET.
Despite the success of the role, Rob Wiethoff did very little voice acting outside of the Red Dead Redemption games. He also starred in the interactive radio game Codename Cygnus and had a few minor roles in films such as the 2006 Bruce Willis film Block 16. After finishing work on the first game, he decided to switch to sales and construction to spend more time with his family. However, he would love to return to the role of John Marston in another Red Dead Redemption if given the chance.
