LinkBuds S: Noise-Cancelling “Planet Blue” Earphones – Sony’s Wireless Earphones Made from Recycled Plastic

TECH PREVIEW – The LinkBuds S model enables a new usage concept and, according to Sony, gives its user “the best of both worlds”. The earphones are perfect for keeping users connected to the online and offline world all day, thanks to their ultra-small and lightweight design and natural ambient sound. The device was created with LinkBuds’ innovative ambient sound technology, with which the user can interact with the world around him. With high-quality noise filtering, he ensures that nothing can distract him from his favorite content.

The headphones integrate Adaptive Sound Control, an intelligent function that adjusts the ambient sound settings depending on the user’s location, thus creating the ideal listening experience. As the way you interact with sound becomes more and more diverse and evolves – for example, by using the earphones during music and games or participating in conference calls – Sony continues to develop the LinkBuds series and its use with applications from other partner companies to provide an optimal audio experience for customers that reflects today’s lifestyle.

New “planet blue” color

The comfortable LinkBuds S will hit stores in a new “Planet Blue” color, with a body and case made using recycled resin materials from plastic water dispensers. Sony originally developed the material as a new design to expand the uses of recycled materials from water dispenser balloons and take advantage of its self-adhesive properties. The resulting material creates a beautiful, unique marble pattern on the LinkBuds S “Earth Blue” product, which has a different color on each version.

In addition to the ‘Planet Blue’ model, the entire LinkBuds range also features plastic-free packaging. The headphones contain recycled materials from car parts, reflecting Sony’s commitment to reducing the environmental impact of its products.

The Sony Group is implementing a long-term environmental plan called ‘Road to Zero’, which aims to reduce its ecological footprint to zero by 2050. As part of this, Sony has created its medium-term environmental goals under the name “Green Management 2025”, which are effective from 2021 to 2025. The initiative aims to speed up processes such as the introduction of recycled plastics, the reduction of energy consumption of products, the elimination of plastic from the packaging of newly designed small products, and the introduction of renewable energy sources.

Donation program to support ocean conservation activities

The annual production of plastic has increased approximately 20-fold over the past 50 years, while the amount of recycled plastic has remained at approximately 9%. Sony donates a percentage of all LinkBuds S products sales to Conservation International (CI), an international NGO that has worked in 70 countries since 1987 to raise awareness of nature and global biodiversity in societies. responsible and sustainable care for the well-being of humanity.

Sony will donate $2 from each unit sold to support CI’s ocean conservation efforts. This means that with each purchase we protect nearly 58,824 square meters of ocean, which Conservation International calculates is equivalent to about 47 Olympic-sized swimming pools .

“Nothing in nature happens in a vacuum. Pollution in one place can affect the entire ocean,” said Anastasia Khoo, head of marketing at Conservation International. “Plastic pollution is a problem in itself, but it also plays a role in exacerbating other stressors on the ocean, from climate change to overfishing. Humanity depends on healthy oceans, and efforts like this help raise needed funding and increase consumer awareness and engagement.”

Multipoint connection function

In addition, all models in the LinkBuds series receive a software update that allows them to connect to two devices simultaneously using the multipoint Bluetooth connection function. If, for example, you are playing music on your computer and your smartphone receives an incoming call, the device will automatically switch to the smartphone call and ensure that you can talk hands-free without switching connections.

All models in the LinkBuds series will receive a software update in November 2022 to support Multipoint Bluetooth connectivity. The award-winning WF-1000XM4 earphones will also benefit from the more convenient Bluetooth feature this winter.
