CD Projekt Red has finally confirmed exactly when fans of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be able to play the next-gen update of the game. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt received rave reviews when it was released in 2015, and is generally regarded as one of the best games ever made. However, in the seven years since The Witcher 3 was first released, significantly more powerful video game consoles and gaming PCs have become available, and the next-gen update allows the game to take full advantage of the latest hardware.
The next-gen update for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was first announced in 2020, so fans of the franchise have been waiting for it for quite some time. When The Witcher 3 next-gen update is released, it will improve the game’s performance and even add some new content based on the Netflix series. Those who already own The Witcher 3 can upgrade to the next-gen version completely free of charge.
The Witcher 3 next-gen update will be released on Wednesday, December 14. Next week, Witcher fans can watch the gameplay on CD Projekt Red’s official Twitch channel. Although no gameplay videos have been shared yet, the tweet included a screenshot showing the improved lighting that will be released in The Witcher 3 next-gen update next month.

Witcher fans can expect much more to come in addition to The Witcher 3 next-gen update. CD Projekt Red recently confirmed that several Witcher games are in development, one an original game from Molasses Flood and the other a remake of the first Witcher game. No further information on these projects is available at the time of writing, but they are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to new Witcher content in the pipeline.
CD Projekt Red has also confirmed that The Witcher 4 is being developed using Unreal Engine 5 and will also mark the beginning of a brand new Witcher saga. Needless to say, the future is bright for Witcher video game fans, and there will be no shortage of games in the years to come.
However, fans of The Witcher Netflix series may not be as happy as fans of The Witcher video games. It was recently announced that The Witcher Netflix series will reprise the role of Geralt of Rivia, replacing Henry Cavill with Liam Hemsworth. Cavill’s performance as Geralt has consistently been one of the most popular elements of the series, so fans are understandably upset about Cavill’s departure.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available now for PC, PS4, Switch and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions launching on 14 December.
