As of this writing, gamers will soon be able to get their hands on the critically acclaimed Death Stranding at the perfect price: for free.
Death Stranding will soon be free on the Epic Games Store this Christmas, at least according to reports. The news is a series of comes from leaked images that recently surfaced on Reddit and Resetera before making the rounds on other social media platforms, especially Twitter. Epic is still keeping the Christmas release as a “mysterious game” for now.
The game in question is described as a “genre-challenging experience” by legendary designer Hideo Kojima. “As Sam Bridges, you are tasked with giving hope to humanity by connecting the last survivors of a decimated America,” explains the official description. “Can you put the broken world back together one step at a time?”
The was released on November 8, 2019 for PS4. The game was later released for PC on July 14, 2020. In other words, this particular version of Death Stranding was released on Bastille Day, which is probably just a coincidence, but when it comes to Kojima, you never really know. The reception was mixed, but mostly positive in both cases.
This is just the latest in a long line of big releases that Epic has been giving away for free. XCOM 2, for example, was given as a gift back in April. “Earth has changed and is now ruled by aliens,” the official description begins. “Faced with impossible odds, you must rebuild XCOM and ignite a global resistance to reclaim our world and save humanity.”
Metro Last Light Redux is available for free on the Epic Games Store for the next 24 hours. Death Stranding is the next free game on Christmas Day.
